Perfect election scenario

We are very conflicted over this year’s election.  On one hand, we’d really like Obama to win the nomination and the election, because we think it would be good for the nation.  It would go a long way towards healing some of the distrust and anger between black and white America if we can demonstrate that we are willing to elect a black man as … Continue reading Perfect election scenario

What does evil look like?

Really, the lastest atrocity of Al Quaeda speaks for itself: Two women described as mentally disabled and strapped with remote-control explosives — and possibly used as unwitting suicide bombers — brought carnage Friday to two pet bazaars, killing at least 91 people in the deadliest day since Washington flooded the capital with extra troops last spring. . . the bombs were detonated by remote control. And … Continue reading What does evil look like?

Why we’re all a bit gaga over Barack Obama

Now, as some of you might have figured out by now, I tend to be pretty conservative in my thinking. Which means not that I’m always thrilled with Republicans, but that I typically don’t like Democrats so much that I vote Republican (although not for George W. Bush in 2004, I’m proud to say!). However, I must admit that I’m actually kind of excited about the prospect of Barack Obama running for president. Pedophile Identification . . . Please pass this on

The New York Times today printed a truly chilling piece today about the psyche of pedophiles using the web. Now, I want you to understand that I am not the sort of person who is given to alarmist views or paranoia. I don’t pass on alarming e-mails about people who want to take away your religious freedoms or use your cell phones to target marketing … Continue reading Pedophile Identification . . . In honor of the protests over illegal immigration . . .

Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel tonight examined the myth of a gigantic slingshot used to fling people through the air and across the border. There’s one way to cross! Of course they’re too nice/smart to get too embroiled, so the imaginary border they created to test their gigantic slingshot was the US Canadian border. But not too nice, and definately smart enough to put the … Continue reading In honor of the protests over illegal immigration . . .

My brain is going to explode

A few minutes ago, I sat down to read an article on slate.com criticizing some column David Brooks wrote about the Duke lacrosse team scandal (don’t really care about it, but the headline writers at slate are so good, they make you want to see what an article’s about). Apparently David Brooks had been complaining about the race/class lens being used to look at the … Continue reading My brain is going to explode

One for the “Duh!” department

On MSNBC.com, they’re reporting on a study which found that “Sexually charged music, magazines, TV and movies push youngsters into intercourse at an earlier age“. They think this is because being surrounded by such media influences create a “norm” of early, frequent, fun and consequence free sexual activity in the minds of young people. Gee – ya think?
